Body Basics

Kids study the science of their insides by learning about the major systems of the human body. They learn about how their food is digested, how their blood flows through their bodies, and how their brain controls all of these parts.

Dinosaurs

Kids examine fossil casts and explore the differences in the teeth of herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs. Students participate in a mini dinosaur excavation and make a cast of a dinosaur tooth to take home.

Playing with Polymers

Kids discover the chemical and physical properties of plastics. They explore the plethora of physics principles that play a role in our daily lives.

Ecosystems Exploration

Kids investigate the interconnections present in nature. They build ecosystem models, explore the elements of energy webs, reflect on how humans impact ecosystems, and use field journals for everyday explorations, and more.

Photosynthesis

This workshop provides kids with an introduction to photosynthesis, including an understanding of the chemical processes at work in plants, plant respiration, and the role of plants in food webs.

Matter of Fact

Kids explore molecules and the forces that hold atoms together. They see the dramatic differences between physical and chemical changes, as they mix up a batch of their very own Mad Science Putty to take home.

Electricity

Kids excite electrons as they construct some serious circuits during this program all about electricity. They test various materials for conductivity with space-age plasma balls. Finally, they create and play a buzz-making electric game.

Preschoolers help create a cloud in a bottle and make it rain inside. They also learn all about the water cycle and weather patterns, and design their very own windsock to take home.

Invention-ation

Who gave us Morse code? How about earmuffs or the light bulb? Children are guided from observation through experimentation on their journey to becoming a great inventor. Designed for kids in grades 3-6.

Water Works

Water is more complicated than it looks and through this exciting workshop children learn all about the different properties of water. They experiment with floating, sinking, absorption, and so much more.

Mineral Mania

Kids recreate the process of rock formation and devise ways to identify and classify rocks and minerals. They experience the thrill of panning for gems; the gems they find, they can take home for further study and investigation.

Black and Blue Oceans

Kids devise and test techniques to handle the aftermath of an oil spill, in an oil spill simulation, and discuss how to clean up and prevent the pollution that plagues our oceans.

Turn Up the Volume

Kids are introduced to the scientific process involved in the measurement of volume, through a series of activities and experiments. They fill-up on the physics of liquids and practice techniques fit for a lab tech! Designed for kids in grades 3-6.

Be Tobacco Free is designed to educate on the direct & indirect effects of tobacco use on the body. Designed for kids in grades 3-6.

Boom, tap, smack, cha-cha-cha! Listen to the sounds and rhythm of the science of music. Children feel, hear, and see the vibrations that help create music in this hands-on exploration.

Children meet Mr. Bones, the skeleton, and learn about muscles and body systems.

Children discover a world that they might not have realized was there, through the use of mirrors, microscopes, and magnifying glasses. They reveal hidden pictures, learn about reflection and symmetry, and use handheld microscopes to observe objects closely. They take away plastic magnifying glasses to continue their exploration at home.

Animal Friends

Children become an animal, identify animal sounds, and learn all about animal babies and parents.

Magnetic Attraction

Space Frontiers

Take kids on a trip through the solar system and sign them up for the Mad Science Astronaut in Training Program, where they will learn all about the elements of space. They will even get to take their very own mini rocket home.

What is light? Kids mix colors of light and explore rainbows.

How Big? How Much?

Preschoolers learn the basics of measurement by measuring all kinds of objects using balance beam scales, bathroom scales, and even their own feet! Children are introduced to the concept of estimation and take home a measuring foot to cut out with their parents.

Children discover different shapes and structures by using different kinds of equipment, like Geoboards and Magnatiles. They create their own structure to take home using cornstarch-based “noodles.”

Healthy Choices

Preschoolers are introduced to basic nutrition in this hands-on workshop. They discover what makes a healthy meal and why they need to keep eating fruits and vegetables to grow strong!

MISSION: CODE

In this 10-part workshop series, kids develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills in an online game environment. They use programming concepts to help a robot get to the next level in the most efficient way; acquiring programming skills for life! Designed for kids in grades 3-6.

Color Lab

This workshop introduces preschoolers to the exciting world of color. They make a new friend while learning about the colors of the rainbow and experiment with their creative side during an activity on color mixing. Demonstrations are conducted to introduce students to the primary colors, as well as color mixing.

Wiggly World of Worms

This workshop provides preschoolers with an opportunity to get their hands dirty while learning all about worms. They work with magnifying glasses to get an up-close look at the lives and habits of worms.

Listen Closely

This workshop introduces kids to the science behind the sounds all around them. Kids experiment with a wave motion model and a twirling tube to help them understand that sound travels in waves and can be heard in a variety of pitches. They also learn about the everyday materials that make a variety of special effects noises in the movies and create their own special effects sounds.

Keep in Touch

Children learn what their sense of touch tells them about the world and they also learn that some objects are safe to touch while others are not. The preschoolers are presented with the challenge of identifying a variety of objects using only their sense of touch. They also experiment with an interesting material and make their very own creation.

Eye to Eye

This workshop introduces preschoolers to their sense of sight. They experiment with magnifying glasses, kaleidoscopes, and binoculars. Kids also interact with a variety of optical illusions to illustrate that their eyes can sometimes play tricks on them.

Adventures in Air

Preschoolers learn that even though air is invisible it is all around them, all the time. They also learn that air has the power to move items and to slow them down. They experiment with a variety of items that rely on the air to help them move.

Bugs!

Children get engrossed in entomology! They sort through creepy-crawly arthropods and inspect real insect specimens, then dig deeper into the life of a bug with habitat puzzles, bug-eyed goggles, and insect defense demonstrations.

Fundamental Forces

Find out about forces that make us move by experimenting with gravity, centripetal force, and inertia. Kids spin, balance, push and pull to see how physics affects everything they do.

Cells

Students learn about cells from the inside out by looking at onion cells under a microscope, putting together organelle puzzles, and working as a team in a protein-building competition.

Scientific Method

This workshop studies the common methodology used by scientists to formulate questions, make predictions, develop and perform experiments, collect and analyze data and draw conclusion. Students will also discuss the implications of science in society and investigate how their conclusions could impact the world around them.
