Work For Us

Job Summary

At Mad Science we are having a BLAST! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about.

As a Mad Scientist you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of fun science programs for preschool- and elementary-aged children.

We are currently looking for energetic individuals to join our growing team to conduct exciting science programs during after-school hours. You do not need to be a certified teacher or a science major. We provide all training, lesson plans, and materials.

  • Flexible schedule. You pick which program assignments to accept, and you choose how many days per week you want to work. Want to take a semester off from Mad Science and come back in a few months? No problem! This is a great schedule for students, stay-at-home parents, freelancers, and people with part-time or early-morning jobs.
  • Ongoing training. We provide continuous support and education to help develop skills in classroom management and teaching practices, as well as staying updated on scientific discoveries. This is a good environment for aspiring educators to get classroom experience.
  • Fun and engaging without the paperwork. Kids can't wait to come to Mad Science, and instructors get to teach exciting lessons without assigning homework, grading, designing curriculum, etc.
  • Educational. Even if you're a scientist, you'll find yourself getting familiar with concepts outside your discipline, revisiting basic ideas you might not have spent time on before, and learning right along with your students!
  • Meaningful work. Some kids come to Mad Science because they've lost their engagement with science during school hours and need to rediscover it; others come because they can't get enough science and need more! Either way, you have daily opportunities to help kids fuel their love for learning and discovery.

  • Instruct weekly one-hour after-school science classes using provided Mad Science curriculum
  • Adhere to each school's standards and operating procedures
  • Visit the Tempe office once a week at most to exchange materials, at any time convenient to you even outside normal office hours
  • Attending quarterly meetings for active employees
  • Be organized and punctual with the help of our online schedule

  • Some experience working with groups of preschool and/or elementary children aged 3- to 12-years old, such as camp counselor, childcare provider, assistant teacher, etc.
  • Must be available during the hours of 2-5 PM for at least one day a week
  • Must have a reliable car
  • Have a fun and outgoing personality with a good teacher presence
  • Have or obtain a fingerprint card and pass a background check (required)

We train you in the curriculum and provide opportunities to observe and assist experienced Mad Scientists before being assigned your own class.

Mad Science after-school programs run during spring and fall semesters, dependent on the calendars of each host school. Mad Science vacation camps run during summer and winter breaks. Mad Science also offers weekend and evening programs such as booths, birthday parties, and shows/special events, so more hours may be available for those who are interested.

This is part-time and rewarding work if it fits with your schedule and lifestyle.
