Workshop Information

Designed by a professional team of educators and scientists, Mad Science workshops are designed to meet state curriculum requirements and STEM objectives.

Students have the opportunity to learn by asking questions, observing demonstrations, completing experiments, and building take-home projects. In addition, our programs have been correlated to match your curriculum requirements for every grade level. Each workshop comes with a packet of optional supporting material like books, simple experiments, and games to help your students revisit the concepts long after the workshop is over.

This page is for our elementary workshops. For our preschool workshops,  visit this page.

All Workshop Topics

 Bugs

Children get engrossed in entomology! They sort through creepy-crawly arthropods and inspect real insect specimens, then dig deeper into the life of a bug with habitat puzzles, bug-eye goggles, and insect defense demonstrations.

 Black and Blue Oceans

Kids explore ocean ecosystems and practice the difficult job of cleaning up harmful oil spills.

 Playing with Polymers

Kids explore the bouncy, stretchy, gooey world of polymers. They test polymer properties and record their observation, watch a dissolving reaction, then mix up a chemical reaction into their very own polymer, the always-popular slime, to take home.

Cell
City

Get an up-close look at cell anatomy and function by playing the part of mitochondria, ribosomes, and other organelles!

 Fundamental Forces

Find out about forces that make us move by experimenting with gravity, centripetal force, and inertia. Kids spin, balance, push and pull to see how physics affects everything they do.

Ecosystem Explorations

Description coming soon!

 Mineral Mania

Junior geologists examine and classify our rock collection, learn about the layers of the earth, then see what explosive and groundbreaking events can happen when they shift around.

Sonic Sounds

 Electricity

Kids start with the anatomy of an atom, explore conductivity and electron flow, then build up to constructing their own circuits to power light bulbs, noisemakers, and more.

 Matter of Fact

 Description coming soon!

 Be Tobacco Free

Interesting activities and eye-catching demonstrations help kids visualize the harmful effects of smoking on the heart, lungs, and more.

Dinosaurs

Dig into paleontology with this lesson on dinosaur diets, physiology, and fossilization. Kids recover buried dinosaur bones, make a cast of a T-rex tooth, and visualize the size of extinct giants.
